Spanish rules state that $10,000 or less
is only allowed to carry by any person without notifying customs. Anything over
that limit must be declared using the correct forms.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother had more than
four times over the limit as she was carrying $55,000 in total and was caught.
She was unable to prove the origin of
the money. All the $10,000 was confiscated from her possession as per the regulations
and she was allowed to board her flight back to her homeland.
"This woman was stopped and money
she was carrying taken and handed over to the Spanish tax authorities along
with a report filed by the Civil Guard”, a spokesman from the Civil Guard in
Madrid is quoted saying to the Eurosport.
The reigning FIFA World Player of The
Year, Ronaldo’s mother was on her way back to Portugal when stopped by the Civil
Guard officers who went on to find the lucrative amount of money in her hand
luggage.
The news was in headlines last day after
the sad incident took place.
