Cristiano growing on and off the field

Cristiano Ronaldo always finds a way to get into the headlines, even if it is a holiday.

Last week Ronaldo topped the headlines with the promotion of an electric muscle simulator for sculpting a washboard abdomen in Tokyo, Japan. His deal with the Japanese healthcare brand MTG was of endorsements worth US$27 million annually and made him the world's highest-paid footballer.

He was also in news last few days for his generosity as he returned a lost phone to the owner and took the attractive lady owner and her friends out for dinner. The news spread as the young lady posted photos of her and friends with Cristiano, tagging him on social media.

The 30-year-old’s image rights were recently bought by Singapore billionaire Peter Lim in a six-year deal. He does his job on the field well and there are no ill news about him except few tales of excessive drinking or partying.

The MTG president Tsuyoshi Matsushita said, "Ronaldo is perfect in terms looks, body and character, but another thing perfect about him is his heart."

The Madrid striker's principle is legendary. He workouts in the gym twice a day, stays back an hour after training to work on his finishing and takes alternative medicine to maintain his physique.

"I dedicate myself 100 per cent to be the best. I train hard so it's easy during the game," Ronaldo told to the media yesterday.

Ronaldo, being always a trendsetter, is following former Madrid star David Beckham in building a brand that lasts long, even after he leaves the ground.

The Portugal International has become the most marketable athlete, advertising from shampoos to underwear. Last year he was seen promoting MTG’s smile enhancing gadget.

A recent study by sports marketing firm Repucom says that he is known to more than 80% of the world's population, with more than 90% of his nationals knowing him.

To add spices to his stories for the last week, the former Manchester United player had stormed out of a television interview in the US after being quizzed on the future of his club-mate Sergio Ramos.

Despite all this, the reigning Ballon d’Or holder will return with his club's squad later this month for a pre-season tour.
